Hello
If you get your style fix from content on Instagram, you probably have an idea of what is currently trending in the footwear category. Adidas Sambas, Nike Blazers, Nike Dunks (these might be dead at this point but I feel like they’re still around) and New Balance 550s. Don’t get me wrong, each one of those sneakers is a great one. Sambas are timeless and so are Nike Dunks. The issue is that sometimes oversaturation can lead to distaste. Not all the time, but sometimes.
Although it may not apply to everyone; the more you are exposed to something, the less likely you are to still be interested in it. As exposure grows, interest diminishes.
I love fried chicken sandwiches. If the only thing I ate for a week straight were fried chicken sandwiches, I’d probably be sick of them on Day 8.
Probably.
So what’s the fix for footwear that can get oversaturated? Underrated footwear that hits just as hard. For this week, I want to bring you three sneakers that are relatively slept on and also unisex so everyone can get in on the fun. Let’s get into it.
Nike x Supreme SB Gato - 2018
The Nike Gato is an iconic indoor soccer shoe. Leather upper, reinforced toe-box, gum sole. It’s got all of the boxes checked. The all white pair is a perfect sneaker for the spring and summer but if you’re looking for a louder, more Supreme-esque pair, the ice blue and cherry red variants also bang.
I’m actually a bit torn on sharing these because I still haven’t gotten my hands on them! I’ve been trying my luck on Grailed lately so if you’re a size 9.5 in mens, stay in your lane!
I’m only kidding, best of luck.
ASICS Gel-Kayano 14
We’re entering a new age of ASICS and the Gel-Kayano 14 is a brilliant foot in the door to athletic footwear reminiscent of the late 2000’s. The sneaker has a busy upper with layered synthetic leather and mesh, built for comfort and durability. It’s the next step in dad shoe prominence and it’s looking like we may be heading into an explosion of ASICS demand soon so get them while they’re hot!
New Balance Numeric Line
The third sneaker I’m recommending isn’t a single model. It’s the New Balance Numeric line.
The Numeric line is New Balance’s own collection of skateboarding sneakers.
I’ve always felt that skate brands had an incredible grip on creating sneakers that serve their purpose of being durable skate shoes while also being brilliant day-to-day sneakers. Quality leathers, suedes, nubucks and durable uppers with tough outsoles to go along with it. They’re perfect for daily use.
I linked the home page for the Numeric line in the header above and I’ll link it here too so you can give it a browse.
Outro
There you have it. Short and sweet, those are my three footwear recommends for this week. Hopefully they resonate for you or give you some inspiration but aside from that, as is usual, I’ll leave you with some tracks I’ve been bumping this past week.
So that’s it. This has been SLS #10. I hope you enjoyed the footwear recommends and the tracks to accompany them. Have a great week and I’ll see you in 7 days.
