The NYT and Leon Thomas
Bringing you this week's recommendations.
Intro
Welcome to the first recommendations ‘sletter of the new year. I’m Jon, your friend from Second Lake.
Before we talk shop, I wanted to stretch a massive thank you to our guy Brent for coming through last week to chop it up for the SLS. I’m still thinking about that pasticiotti he’d mentioned. Much love.
Now, onto today’s read.
Clothing and Footwear:

Okay, okay, okay. I know. The Samba wave needs to come to an end and the hype is getting a little bit out of control. Trust me, I feel it too.
However. You can’t argue that the silhouette isn’t a proven banger. These colorways from the adidas site are cash money. I’ll link them right here.
If you wanted the adidas x Gucci Sambas but didn’t want to shell the coins, these versions offer a pop of color that usually come through on an adidas Gazelle or Campus. It’s refreshing to see the Samba in a different outfit like this.

Stüssy is right there with Palace for me with having some of the best collaborations that we’ve seen in recent years. They’re never too bonkers and they always hit just right. This time, we’re getting a pair of World Hiker Boots from the two giants: one full black leather pair and a tan hairy suede pair, both equipped with Vibram outsoles.
The sturdiest only.
If these boots are any indicator of what’s to come from Stüssy this year, we’re in for a proper treat. So while the Mulberry madmen are putting some miles on their Rainier boots, you can get yourself a pair of Stümberlands on Friday, January 13th on stussy.com at 10 am PST. Price unknown at the moment. Apologies.

Publication Apparel

I usually get my media fix from the NYT first thing in the morning. I enjoy the interface and columnists and have found that there’s almost always some random article I can indulge in when my brain needs a reset. If you have an NYT subscription, this recent one was a goodie.
If you don’t have an NYT subscription, that’s completely fine. No harm no foul. I would encourage you, however, to scope out your favorite publication’s site to see if they have a store. There are a million publications out there, this one included. The thing that should be supported is good quality journalism. Factual, insightful, entertaining, impactful. Good journalism. So, if your favorite publication has a baseball cap or a knit, maybe scoop one. It’s always good to support those that share knowledge.
Knowledge is power, right?
Music:
You know the drill. Here are some tracks for you to give a try.
Film and TV:
Pom Poko
I recently watched Pom Poko, a Ghibli classic. Raccoons against the world, essentially.
I’d recommend this movie to anyone given the message behind it, but this scene was definitely a wild one. You’ll see what I mean.
Once again, massive love for tapping in and I’ll see you in 7 days.
Have a great week!
